Surface Design Techniques

Surface Design Techniques

  • I define surface design as any technique that manipulates or changes the surface of a fabric. This would include: painting, dyeing, printing, stamping, stenciling, applying resists, stitching, embellishing (e.g.adding beads), weaving, patch work etc.
  • By using this techniques I made some products like: cushion cover, curation, mat, quilting, bed sheet etc.
  • Finally I made some theme based home furnishing collection.

Block Printing

Marbling

Batik

Batik is a resist printing. It is various methods of colouring cloth in a pattern by pretreating designed areas to resist penetration by the dye. To obtain a two colour pattern on goods already dyed in one colour, a dye paste is applied in the desired design; the paste contains a substance resistant to a second dye, which is then applied to the cloth, developing colour only in the areas not covered by the paste.

Tie-Dye

Tie-dyeing, method of dyeing by hand in which coloured patterns are produced in the fabric by gathering together many small portions of material and tying them tightly with string before immersing the cloth in the dye bath. The dye fails to penetrate the tied sections. After drying, the fabric is untied to reveal irregular circles, dots, and stripes.
